Oh my! It's almost spring! Spring is in.... 12 days? Something like that. We spoke with the marina today, and our launch is scheduled for the first week of May. We need to paint the bottom of the boat, and the paint we are using requires a minimum ambient temperature of 10 degrees C. Most likely we will get a few days of that weather towards the end of April. One issue we have is that we are unable to paint underneath the pads that support the boat on the cradle. We purchased additional pads so we would be able to drop one and paint that area, but unfortunately the fabricator made the pads too high, and even at their minimum height, they don't allow any space to get in. What we are going to do is pay the yard to move the boat a foot forward, which will allow us to paint the areas the pads cover. Usually people will slap a coat of paint on those areas in the sling, and then it's dry before the boat goes into the water. The paint we selected has a 16 hour dry time, so the slings won't work for us. I'm still not 100% sure how we are going to paint the underside of the wing keel. Any suggestions?
A few days ago we bought an Acuva Arrow 5. It's a UV water purification system. It's a pretty straight forward install, but I'm sure it will still take me 10 days. We added on the "Smart faucet" which is essentially a faucet with a blue light on it. The blue light is an indication that the water is being purified as it comes out of the faucet. Without that light, there really isn't much of an indication that the water is clean.
Ben is looking at Wifi and cell phone signal repeaters and boosters. He'll probably pick one up in the next few days. This adventure of ours is atrociously expensive, but it will be completely worth it.
On March 18th, we are meeting with a few gentlemen on the boat to discuss an install plan for the alternator, serpentine belt, water maker, and lithium package. We're very excited for that! Now that the weather is starting to get a bit nicer, we will be able to get moving.
Our arch is being designed once we get the cover off. I think we'll get the cover off at the end of March, beginning of April. Our cover is such thick canvas, so thick that it blocks out most light, and traps cold air in the boat.
We also received our official certificate of registry for Oh Caribou! It was a bunch of paperwork, but Transport Canada was very friendly and walked me through the process. We are official Oh Caribou :) Alright, time for TV.
Toodles fawns.
