Well today was quite the day. We stomped through the terrible rainy weather, and made our way to Oh Caribou. She was of course sitting there, wrapped up, waiting for us. But that's not what this post is about, and that's not why you are here. You're here for washing machine updates. We probably should have done some more accurate measuring before we bought our little washing machine, but such is life.
We decided today would be the day that we check and see if the washing machine will fit in the drawer. We took the box it came in, and chopped it down to be pretty close in size to the actual machine. Then we took it to the boat, only to discover that when we took the drawers out, there was much more to "quickly sliding the box into the opening to check the fit."
Here was the issue.
Essentially, the whole teak frame needed to be removed. The middle separating piece was attached to the frame, and the frame was attached to the wooden structure on the inside. So, Ben decided it's time to get the drill out, remove the teak plugs, and get this drawer section out.
With the box out, It was time to investigate what was actually inside, and here we are. Yeah, our boat is an absolute disaster right now. We're discovering that the more organized we are, the more things we need to move around to get to the thing we need. Derp...
With the drawer and frame removed, we were able to see how much space we actually have to work with. In the picture, you can one of the stringers. Inside the drawer opening, just outside of view, is one of our blackwater tanks aka poop tanks. If the tank was recessed by 3 inches, our washing machine would sit flush with the opening. A bit of a bummer, but now the washing machine will have to stick out a few inches, But that's okay. All of this ended up taking about 3 hours longer than the 15 minutes we had allocated, so we had to call 'er a day. We have a rule that when the sun goes down, so do the tools. This is definitely going to be one of our most creative DIY tasks, and it's definitely going to take about 700 times longer than we have planned.
